The Dreamer
By: JayyErickSS
As he walked to his house in a dark chilly night, Alejandro
passed by the house of the girl he liked. He would stop and
look up at her window. The lights in her room would be shut
off and she would go to bed. He would then continue to walk
home. The trees danced with the wind and the moon was covered
by clouds. The only light he would see were the street lights
and the headlights of cars that would pass every now and then.
He doesn’t have a family. All his family members were
killed in a car accident three years ago. He lived with his
friend’s family in an empty room in the basement. His
friend was now completing his second year in college and his
sister was a tenth grader in high school. His friend’s
mother was a very respected but loving woman who would do good
deeds for anyone. His dad on the other hand, was an alcoholic
and sometimes a little violent with the family but never with
anyone else. Even though the family had its ups and downs, it
was a very successful family. Alejandro was not successful
because he wasn’t part of the family. Every day he would
go earn money by helping people out at the bus station with
their luggage. Even though he wasn’t an employee there,
some people would tip him and some wouldn’t even say
“thank you”. The little bit of money he earned, he
would use to buy food and some things he might need. The rest
he would save it to pay the family for rent or he would save
it for his future.
Every day he would see the girl of his dreams get off the
bus at the bus station and he would help her with some bags or
whatever she needed help with. He couldn’t stop looking
at her eyes. Her beautiful blue eyes that would light up as
she looked at him. Then she gets in her dad’s car and
wave at him as she continues her way home. He was a very
generous young man. He would help the homeless by giving them
some of his change or some of his food. He would do favors
without asking for something back. Unfortunately he
couldn’t get a job because he, like many others, was an
immigrant. He came from Honduras when he was just three years
old. He went to school and learned English but he was always
lazy and didn’t get good grades. He now regrets that and
wishes he could have done better. His mother’s advices
would repeat on his head as he saw successful people with nice
cars and nice clothes walking around him. He would get upset
and regret all bad decisions he made in the past. He had to do
something to change that.
For the first time, after years of seeing that girl, he
decides to talk to her. He now knows her name and some of her
preferences. He knows that the girl’s father is a
successful business man and he’s almost at the top of a
big company that he works for. Every time she talks, he
listens carefully to not seem disrespectful. He’s also
surprised because he knows what the girl has gone through. He
tells her his story and she can’t believe that he has
suffered a lot but he still holds his head up and his dreams
alive. She offers to help but he denies the help because he
doesn’t want to owe people for those favors. He claims
he wants to get out of his situation alone so he could feel
better about himself. He wants to be successful with no
one’s help.
As time passes, his dreams die. He no longer has anyone
but the girl he always wanted. At last, he at least has what
he most wanted for a long time, the love of that girl. They
both went through a lot but they couldn’t succeed. When
the girl’s father found out that she liked a Hispanic,
he was upset and kicked her out of the house. No one supported
them and no one looked after them but themselves. Alejandro
couldn’t take it anymore and he decided to take his
life, thinking that it would solve his problems. After his
death, many people went to his funeral. Mostly people that he
helped out and they wished they could have helped him back.
The girl is now married with another guy having a luxury life.
She still remembers Alejandro but she’s rich and happy
now.
Alejandro gave help without asking for something in return.
People will always remember him as the dreamer.
